Can Spheron (previously ArgoApp) be bigger & better than Netlify?
On Apr 07, 2015, Netlify Co-Founder Chris Bach wrote, “Woohoo! We’ve launched.” He understood that their team had innovated a disruptor in the cloud services market. Their free plan attracted developers with plentiful storage offerings compared to other free plans existing in the market. Like Netlify, we at Spheron (previously ArgoApp), understand that our platform has enough potential to lead the cloud service industry through our front-end solution. But how do we compare?
A lesson in web deployment by Netlify
Netlify describes itself as “An intuitive Git-based workflow and powerful serverless platform to build, deploy, and collaborate on web apps.” Its approach to web deployment worked well, becoming a hit with the developing community globally. Developers appreciated free bandwidth of up to 100GB per month and 300 free build minutes. The platform ended up commanding respect amongst developers and top brands such as Nike and Verizon within an impressive period. Netlify gave the market lessons on how to cause disruptions.
Netlify’s success in the market cannot be overlooked; however, the platform is not perfect. Being a centralized service, it has several loopholes that are easy to exploit, and with the emergence of decentralized technologies such as Spheron (previously ArgoApp), the room for innovation and disruptors is now.
Spheron’s (previously ArgoApp) increasing suite of services and features
Spheron (previously ArgoApp) and Netlify go toe to toe in various parameters. For instance, both platforms feature the following:
- 100% uptime for web apps deployed on their services
- Simplicity and ease of use both have the same three-step process of web app deployment
- Custom domains
- Expansive support for developers
- Both support static website hosting
Such competition is healthy for the market as the quality of service delivered remains the best-in-class.
The difference in service between Netlify and Spheron (previously ArgoApp) centers primarily on the issue of centralization and decentralization. At Spheron (previously ArgoApp), there are decentralized advantages that our users enjoy, which are not available in Netlify. Our decision to base our services on decentralizations and ensuing collateral benefits provides us a crucial competitive advantage against Netlify.
A clear example of this is censorship. Centralization gives governments and other authorities a way through which they can bar specific data. These regulations may at times be detrimental to freedom of speech and expression, as seen in dictatorships. Because of Netlify’s clear hierarchy, executives can be targeted to enforce certain measures.
Unlike Netlify, decentralization in our platform allows us to make our users a decision-maker, thus eliminating any finger-pointing. Our core mandate is to ensure the platform is running as users make crucial decisions concerning the future of Spheron (previously ArgoApp)
Arguably, the 100% uptime assurance made by Netlify is questionable, considering that censorship is a typical faucet of centralized architecture. Spheron (previously ArgoApp) can comfortably claim 100% uptime as our platform is secure from any form of censorship.
Value for Money
Netlify may be offering reasonable rates in the market, but they are not as inexpensive as the rates made possible through Spheron (previously ArgoApp). Our pricing mechanism considers numerous factors, placing the needs of developers and our users first before the need for profit.
On Netlify, there are several categories of payment where users may have to part with no less than $20 a month for the most basic of services beyond the free plan. From excessive use of bandwidth to additional team members on a project.
Stablecoin payment
Conversely, Spheron (previously ArgoApp) offers a more user-centered model of payment. Depending on a client’s usage, the payment can be a one-off payment; in most cases, the cost is one-off, especially for storage services linked through our platform. For web deployment, charges are calculated based on the build time for the web app. We are currently using the Chainlink price feed module for platform charges based on the price feed of $DAI on Chainlink. Every token-related transaction is pegged to the USD.
$ARGO staking
Through the native $ARGO token, our users can end up having a total of zero (0) net spend by participating in our staking rewards scheme. By staking $ARGO, users can increase their token holdings through rewards. These rewards can then be used to pay for services within our platform. Staking $ARGO will also give our users access to exclusive events and services, this includes discounts as well.
Flexible pricing
Additionally, business gets even more value than the minimum $99 price tag charged monthly per business. Our platform maintains our flexible pricing for both individuals and companies. There are no limitations on concurrent builds, bandwidth, or team members, as seen in the business package provided by Netlify. Moreover, all our charges are upfront with no hidden costs or extra charges upon exceeding certain limitations, as is the case with Netlify.
Thus, in terms of value for money, our platform gives users more compelling offers compared to the Netlify structured plans.
Netlify was a trend-setter, but the time is now for Spheron (previously ArgoApp) to become the new disruptor
Based on decentralization alone, our platform has the potential to surpass Netlify in cloud service provision. Adding on to the other advantages resulting from decentralization, it becomes clear that we may be a few steps ahead of Netlify.
With the latest adoption-focused improvements from our V2 update, our platform is on track to improve the adoption of our services and challenge the cloud hosting service status quo. ArGoApp can be bigger and better than Netlify!
